Larkdight Studios Colorado Buffaloes' Program Rebuild (Season 1) June 13, 2025 5:00PM CST

With the Colorado Buffaloes entering into their second bye week of the season, following a dominant three-game win streak against three conference opponents since their last their last bye week, now is as good of a time as any to check in with the program.
OVERVIEW
The Buffaloes are really grabbing the attention of the college football world right now. QB Shedeur Sanders is leading the nation in passing and touchdown passes. Again, it helps when you have a unicorn like WR/CB Travis Hunter on your team, but one of the most unsung heroes of this offense is senior WR LaJohntay Wester. He may not put up the yardage that Hunter does, but he is right there in stride with receptions and really helping the Buffaloes drive the ball. Not to mention, he also has returned to kickoffs back to the house for touchdowns like a stud. There’s no telling where this Buffaloes offense can go.
What’s crazy, is that somehow the Buffaloes’ leaders are being snubbed in the Heisman voting. People really do love to hate HC Deion Sanders, Shedeur, and this newly surging Colorado Buffaloes program. How does a guy like Travis Hunter, who leads the nation with 1200 receiving yards (150 YPG AVG) and 16 receiving touchdowns (2 REC TD/GM), not even fall into the top 5? How does Shedeur Sanders, who leads the nation with 2700 passing yards (345 YPG AVG) and 39 total touchdowns (3.6 TD/GM), not even fall into the top 5? It would be an absolute travesty if neither of these two were invited to the ceremony in a month’s time, but both of them just find it hilarious and continue to focus on winning games and leading this team to the playoffs.
When it comes to recruiting, the Buffaloes took a punch to the gut when three of the guys that were close to committing to Colorado all selected to play at other programs. But HC Sanders just shook it off and, when asked, he made it clear that if you don’t buy into what’s building here then you weren’t who he was looking for anyway. He’s going to be guest appearing on a local podcast with a four-star QB prospect in Deon McNabb (out of Texas) during the bye week, before hosting a few more four-star prospects the following week. So, look for the Buffaloes to make a push at landing a few more recruits for 2025 to go along with the four four-stars they’ve already landed commitments from (including the #1 C and #5 G in the nation).
